Beginning in 2010, I
will be offering a personalized correspondence study course in beekeeping.
Each student will receive my book and cd plus digitized copies of old bee books
and slide shows illustrating the lessons. Each person taking the
class will receive an individual education plan. A certificate will be
issued to those who take test and complete the program.
What can I tell you about myself: I have a B.S. in Ed. as well as a M.S. in Ed. I have had over 40 years of teaching experience from middle school students to adults. My beekeeping experience stretches back more than 55 years. I am not counting the years I spent as a teen working for my father. This experience included a stint as a commercial beekeeper producing queens and selling package bees. However, the bulk of my experience is as a hobby beekeeper.
My credits include being the author of three books on beekeeping, the author of a number of articles in bee magazines, being a certified Ohio Beekeeper, an EAS Master Beekeeper, The Ohio Beekeeper of the Year in 1997, and recipient of the Ohio Beekeepers Life Time Achievement Award. I have served in many capacities with beekeeping organizations -- regional, state, and local. I am frequently asked to speak to beekeepers and travel extensively to do so. I can provide outstanding references from those who are considered experts in the field.
The cost of the Basic correspondence course is $150.00. This will allow you to have individual chats with me, send in your assignments by email and receive evaluations of the assignment, and a testing program to evaluate your progress. Lessons will take into account your beekeeping location because of variations in climate in the various regions of the U.S.
The plan will take into account a number of things: such as your age; rate of study; do you have access to bee hives and bees? and what are your personal goals?
You will have an opportunity to visit my beeyard and work with me in various beeyards -- you must provide your own transportation, meals and lodging while visiting.
